I’m will teach a classroom-based Navigation class if we have enough interest. If a minimum of five sign up, The default location is Punta Gorda, FL.
The class would include:
- Reading a Chart
- Basic Rules of Navigation
- Identifying Navigation Aids
- Identifying Hazards
- Basics of tides and currents
- Measuring Distances
- Types of Compasses for Marine Use
- Using a Compass with a chart & to take bearings
- Plotting a Course
- Fixing Your Location
- Small Craft Nav Aid
- The class does NOT cover GPS use
Please bring a hand-held compass, pencil, and ruler. There will be a $10 fee to cover materials and costs.
At a later date, we can apply the lessons learned to an actual trip. Anyone who attends the classroom-based class would have priority for this event.

Performance Paddling is the art and science of maximizing efficiency, especially in the forward stroke. Efficiency increases speed, adds endurance, and reduces fatigue compared to poor technique.
This three hour course is meant for those who already paddle well but would like to be more efficient but is also great for beginners who want to start out efficiently. The course is a culmination of Brian's 20+ years of teaching and racing experience. The course also includes the latest drills and techniques developed by Oscar Chalupsky, 12 time World Open Ocean Champion. The price is $50 payable on site. 3 person minimum, 10 max.
